Effective instruction isn’t just what you teach. It’s how you make it stick. In this workshop, we’ll look into proven techniques for delivering clear instructions, increasing material accessibility, and stretching worksheets further, with plenty of opportunities for hands-on practice.
About This Session
Description
Explore specific techniques and instructional practices for supporting adult learners in accessing materials and understanding classroom routines. Learn about the practice of explicit instruction, how to effectively give instructions, and suggestions for extending worksheets to maximize understanding and practice. Participants will see hands-on examples, and have opportunities to practice each skill.
What we'll cover:
In this workshop, participants will gain strategies for getting the most out of classroom time and making materials and activities more accessible for all learners through clear and careful instructional techniques.
In this session, we will articulate and practice explict instruction using the “I do, we do, you do” gradual release of responsibility, explore ways to expand worksheets for scaffolding and more advanced practice opportunties, and discuss concrete ways to check the understanding of every learner in the class to adapt instruction as we go.
