Digital Access and Resilience for English Language Learners

About This Session

Description

Incorporating Digital Literacy and Resilience in ESL lessons can be challenging, especially at the lowest levels. However, these skills are essential for full participation in our digital society, including our workforce.

The free Digital Access and Resilience in Texas curriculum is a great place to start. Let’s discuss ideas for incorporating digital literacy to enhance the experience for ELLs at all levels of instruction.

What we'll cover:

In this session, we will discuss both digital literacy and digital resilience. We will explore ways to provide opportunities for adult English language learners to develop these skills even with limited access. We will work to integrate these skills into existing English language lessons rather than making it ‘something else’ students have to do.

We will identify activities to improve digital skills with no digital devices.

We will explore activities to improve digital skills with phones only.

We will explore activities to improve digital skills in the 1-computer classroom.

We will explore tools and resources for students at all levels but focus on our beginning level learners with the Digital Access and Resilience in Texas (DART) Curriculum.

You will leave with access to DART and fresh ideas that you can implement into your very next class.
