We believe every person in Texas has the right to literacy.
Our work focuses on supporting nonprofits and other literacy providers with the training and resources they need to help adult learners – and by extension their families – to the highest possible standard.
We have a special focus on providing professional development for tutors, staff, instructors, and volunteers at community-based organizations and nonprofits that provide adult and family literacy services.
Literacy-focused nonprofits and other organizations in Texas help more than 90,000 people who don’t yet read, write, and/or speak English at a level that would let them reach their full potential. Improving adult literacy has a direct connection to the economic and social prosperity of our state, preparing folks for new or better jobs and allowing families to thrive.
We use many methods to support literacy across Texas, including:
- Resources hosted here online,
- Training (see more directly below and in our calendar),
- Networking and building community partnerships with and between literacy programs, and
- Advocacy at the state and national level.
Literacy Texas is here to provide support and empower literacy nonprofits with training and best practices so they can focus on what they do best: Working alongside adults and families as they strive to improve their lives through literacy.
Because literacy transforms Texas, and is the key to a brighter future for us all.
