Description
This breakout session will provide a practical, implementation-focused exploration of volunteer outreach strategies designed to strengthen adult literacy initiatives. Participants will explore various approaches to identifying, recruiting, onboarding, and retaining mission-aligned volunteers.
The session will explore how strategic messaging, diversified recruitment channels, and clearly defined volunteer pathways can expand program capacity and improve instructional quality. Attendees will also discuss ways to cultivate cross-sector partnerships with local employers, community-based organizations, faith institutions, and civic groups to build referral pipelines.
What we'll cover:
In this workshop, we will discuss and explore opportunities to seek volunteers and to engage them in our programs. We will also discuss and share ideas on volunteer retention to create sustainability for our programs, and more importantly, our students.

Executive Director
Adult Learning Alliance of Arkansas
Nancy Leonhardt has served as the Executive Director of Adult Learning Alliance of Arkansas since 2013. She brings to the position over 25 years in non-profits and 14 years as a leader in Rotary International. A native Californian, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning from California Polytechnic University, Pomona.
She may be an Arkansan, but her Texas roots run deep on her mother’s side of the family. In addition, her son lives in Houston.
