Effective classroom routines do more than streamline instruction in your classroom. They build academic skills, foster a supportive learning community, and empower students to take ownership of their learning.
In this session, participants will explore practical, research-backed routines that enhance engagement, promote language development, and create a structured yet flexible environment.
Through real-world examples and interactive discussions, teachers will leave with concrete strategies to implement routines that boost student confidence, participation, and long-term success.
What we'll cover:
Everyone is working hard in the adult ESL classroom, and needs support to be successful. This workshop will introduce participants to the power of routines to lessen the cognitive load of teaching and learning, for students and instructors alike! Come prepared to share your favorite routines.
In this session, we will explore real-life examples of successful routines and how they impact lesson planning and learner participation, discuss research that covers the importance of strong classroom routines, and have a chance to hear from teaching colleagues as they share their successful routines.

Andrea Echelberger
LESLLA
Andrea Echelberger has worked in the field of adult education as a classroom teacher and an instructional trainer for over 20 years, providing training and support for English language teachers on both a state and national level.
Andrea has worked extensively with refugee-background adult emergent readers, served as an EL Fellow and EL Specialist with the US State Department, and has developed a wide variety of workshops and classroom instructional materials for ABE teachers of all levels. She served for three years on the international board of LESLLA, an organization that focuses on adult emergent readers. Andrea’s favorite areas of research are universal design for classrooms, healing-centered classroom practices, and pronunciation instruction.
