This session focuses on equipping educators and programs with practical ways to support parents and caregivers in building their own literacy skills while learning how to support their children.
About This Session
Description
In many communities, families deeply want to support their children academically but may feel overwhelmed, intimidated, or unsure of how to help—especially when navigating school systems, academic language, or literacy expectations in a second language. This interactive session is designed to help educators, family engagement specialists, adult education programs, parent liaisons, and community organizations better understand how to empower families through literacy in meaningful, respectful, and practical ways.
Participants will explore how literacy impacts confidence, communication, advocacy, and long-term student success. The session emphasizes the importance of creating welcoming environments where parents and caregivers feel valued, capable, and included regardless of their educational background or language proficiency.
We’ll explore real-life strategies that make literacy accessible, respectful, and empowering for families.
