Happy September, y’all!

Despite what TV commercials and online ads might have us believe, back-to-school season isn’t just for young learners. Late August and early September are busy times for adult education programs across Texas, too. New volunteers are being welcomed, placement tests are being given, class rosters are taking shape, and adults across our state are stepping into classrooms ready to build new skills and new opportunities.

How fitting, then, that September is also home to Adult Education and Family Literacy Week – a time to shine a light on the adults who are strengthening foundational literacy skills and creating new possibilities for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Literacy Texas joins the Texas Workforce Commission and Governor Greg Abbott in recognizing the programs across our state that make this work possible, plus the many people and organizations who champion their success.

When we invest in adult literacy, the impact reaches far beyond the classroom. Stronger literacy skills can open doors to employment and economic mobility, strengthen families, and help communities thrive. Thank you for being part of a Texas that believes in literacy and opportunity for all.
