We can’t put on successful regional events alone! We need local experts – like YOU.
Once a year, we open expressions of interest for hosting symposia. We welcome interest from nonprofit organizations across Texas!
We have these goals:
- Present high-quality symposia that meet local needs.
- Offer symposia in regions where they are most needed.
- Reach more people in Texas with quality professional development.
- Connect with new prospective presenting partners.
You may be a successful symposium host if you:
- Have staffing capacity to help plan an event (with a lot of help from Literacy Texas);
- Can find a local venue that can host 60 – 120 people, depending on region, with the capacity for whole-group sessions and 2 – 3 breakout spaces;
- Have a mailing list, newsletter, and/or social media presence that can help advertise the symposium to adult and family literacy folks in your area.
We’re looking for expressions of interest from anyone interested in presenting a regional symposium in the coming grant year (September 2024 – August 2025).
And – very importantly – we want to hear from EVERYONE who’s interested.
Never held a symposium before? We want to hear from you!
Successfully held many symposia? We want to hear from you!
There’s already a symposium in your region? We want to hear from you!
There’s never been a symposium in your region? We want to hear from you!
Everything starts with an expression of interest, and we’ll start our conversations there.
Please note –
We’re making some important changes for the 2024-25 grant year, to provide a more consistent experience across symposia for all attendees, and to make things easier both for presenting partners and for Literacy Texas as these events grow in size and scope. These improvements will affect how all regional symposia are organized.
We will be holding two information sessions, and we very much encourage anyone who would like to learn more about holding a symposium to attend one of them:
Monday, June 17, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Tuesday, June 25, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Expressions of Interest Process
Expressions of interest for the 2024-25 grant year closed on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Stay tuned for the 2025-26 process, which will open in spring 2025.
We’ve tried to keep the process as simple and straightforward as possible. There are two main elements:
- Read the planning guidelines
- Complete the interest form

Expressions of interest for the 2023-24 grant year will be open until Friday, July 14, 2023.
Planned 2024-25 Timeline
- July 19, 2024: Expressions of interest close for 2024-25
- Conversations with prospective partners
- August 2024: Decisions made for 2024-25
- August 31, 2024: 2024-25 symposium calendar set
- September 1, 2024: New grant year begins
