Standards in Action: Cultivating a Language and Content Focus for English Learners

About This Session

Description

English language learners (ELLs) face unique challenges in mastering both academic content and language skills. This session will present Standards in Action: Cultivating a Language and Content Focus for English Learners, an approach designed to help educators integrate language development into content instruction in a way that supports the simultaneous acquisition of both. Using real-world examples and collaborative planning techniques, participants will learn to embed language instruction within academic subjects and align language proficiency standards with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS).

Attendees will engage with practical strategies for scaffolding instruction, differentiating learning for varying levels of language proficiency, and using formative assessments to ensure ELLs are progressing in both content knowledge and language acquisition. This session will equip educators with the tools to provide targeted support to English learners while maintaining high academic expectations.
