Description
This is a practical workshop designed for adult educators working with learners who are developing foundational reading and writing skills. It explores who emergent literacy learners are, how to identify and support them, and how to create inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environments.
Participants will gain strategies for assessment, instruction, and intake practices that foster confidence and growth in new literacy learners.
What we'll cover:
In this workshop, we’ll share ideas for helping adult education programs create a welcoming space for emergent readers. Attendees will develop inclusive, respectful, and beginner-friendly processes to welcome all learners.
In this session, we will:
- List strategies for developing intake processes for those with limited language
- Compare methods for teacher preparation
- Explore ready-made materials for low-language learners
