Keep Calm and Math On!

About This Session

Description

Math, whether teaching or learning it, tends to cause strong emotions in people. Investigate causes of math anxiety based on research and personal experiences and explore some in-class practices to help combat it.

What we'll cover:

Does the word MATH make you smile or cringe?

We know many students have math anxiety that holds them back, but have you thought about your own attitude towards math?

During this session, we will discuss origins of personal math attitudes, causes of math anxiety in ourselves and our students, and investigate some easily incorporated math practices to help combat this anxiety. We will explore patterns and math self-discovery, math videos, and math technology sites.
