About This Session
Description
In this session, we will explore how BurlingtonEnglish immerses students in a digital experience with standards-based, teacher-led instruction to develop English proficiency while integrating essential digital literacy skills.
What we'll cover:
It’s alarming to consider that millions of adults in the United States use computers every day for work and lack the digital skills to use them effectively! For adult ESL learners, this is especially difficult and is exacerbated by their limited English proficiency.
Participants will learn how they can support learners to become digitally proficient while mastering the English language with the tools and resources that BurlingtonEnglish provides in its online curriculum. Attendees will see how Burlington’s online platform encourages digital literacy from day one, and how each course provides digital skills for students.
Presenters will explain how Burlington Core, our standards-based curriculum, teaches students how to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to a range of topics including texting, writing emails, and navigating websites. Simple animated videos in Using Your Computer will familiarize students with the monitor, mouse, and keyboard functions. Through our multiple career courses, students will learn important digital workplace soft skills and technical language, which are invaluable for career planning and goal setting.
BurlingtonEnglish makes every effort to ensure each adult learner is supported throughout their journey with the language and digital skills to be successful – at home, at work, and in the community.
