About This Session
Summary
We probably all agree that digital literacy is important, but how do we include it in our beginning ESL classrooms? Let’s get hands-on about how to integrate these important skills in our lessons for adult learners.
Digital literacy, and digital resilience, are increasingly critical for a successful life in the United States, but many of our classrooms lack technology for students to use, and/or teachers lack confidence in how to include it.
What we'll cover:
In this session, we will look at basic strategies for incorporating digital literacy skills in lessons for beginning-level adult English Language Learners, even when technology resources are limited. We will also take a deep dive into the Digital Access and Resilience in Texas curriculum, a free resource available on the TCALL website.
We will start with what to do when a learner has no or limited first language literacy or lacks Roman-alphabet literacy. Step-by-step, we will work through some of the challenges of including digital literacy, including the challenge of multi-level classrooms and various levels of learner skill with digital technologies.
