Summary
Wondering where to start when serving your ITPs? This session will discuss the model used by Community Action, Inc. of Central Texas to develop an online class called ESL for Professionals that serves ITPs in 9 different counties.
What we'll cover:
This presentation will discuss the structure and individual components of Community Action’s ESL for Professionals online class. This class provides services for ITPs that live in the 9 counties surrounding Austin.
Community Action created this class over 5 years ago and has continued to adapt and improve the class to meet the needs of our ITPs. We will provide information on the history and development of the class. Presenters will discuss qualifications required to attend the class, how we recruit and what our orientation process is. We will show examples of the curriculum and syllabus used in the class.
Lastly, we will discuss the support services and special projects we provided such as the career counseling model utilized to assist students with the tools necessary to enter or advance in the workforce.
Participants will:
- Understand the model CAI uses to develop a class for ITPs
- Discuss different components of the class
- Examine the career counseling process used by CAI
- Highlight success stories
- Identify challenges to serving ITPs
