About This Session
Summary
Sharing the stories of adult learners inspire tutors and students to do better. While these stories help restore hope and self-esteem, they also help advocate and market our adult literacy programs because there is nothing more effective than putting a human face to the struggles of basic literacy in adults.
A bibliography will be presented to the attendees of the many books written by adult learners and volunteer tutors. Attendees will also be encouraged to write about their experiences and of their students. Literacy goes beyond learning, it also changes lives.
What we'll cover:
Learn about the unique experiences of adult learners and volunteer tutors as they publish their stories explaining how literacy has changed their lives.
We will cover the stories of John Corcoran, Ruth J. Colvin, Nelson Lauver, and many others who experienced the world of illiteracy either by becoming the student or the teacher. A bibliography of the latest books will be discussed. Using these stories as supplemental reading motivates adult learners to continue studying regardless of the difficulties in their lives.
