Four Community Programs Receive Funding From Literacy Texas
Congratulations to Each One Teach One, San Antonio; East Side University Village Community Learning Center, Houston; South Texas Literacy Coalition, Edinburg and the Tarrant Literacy Coalition, Ft. Worth for winning the funding from Literacy Texas to host McGraw-Hill Companies’ Financial Fitness Festivals. Each of these organizations will receive $3,500 in reimbursements for expenses associated with their Festival.
The events are a fun and unique way to provide information about financial literacy in communities where many people don’t understand the importance of having a savings account, balancing a checkbook, or planning for their children’s college education. The festivals have something for all family members – children receive books like “The Berenstain Bears’ Dollars and Sense” and parents attend workshops designed to help them make wiser choices with their limited resources and gradually build more wealth for the future.
One of the most valuable outcomes of the Festivals is the opportunity for the organizations to create new and long-standing collaborations with other community organizations.
There will be a Financial Fitness Festival workshop at this year’s Literacy Texas Conference on August 9 for everyone interested in learning how to host their own Festival.
